Central Córdoba defeated Lanús this Thursday by 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals. The local team played at the Estadio Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero. Gastón Verón scored the winning goal in the 58th minute. The second leg will be played next Thursday at the Estadio Ciudad de Lanús Néstor Díaz Pérez. The start of the game was intense, with opportunities for both teams. Lanús had the first clear chance with a free kick that Rodrigo Castillo passed to Dylan Aquino. Central Córdoba countered with a play by Lucas Besozzi that felt a touch from Carlos Izquierdoz in the area. In the second half, Lanús started better and settled into the local team's territory. The local team had the clearest chance in the following with a medium-distance shot from Iván Gómez that Nahuel Losada contained. And in the 58th minute, José Florentín assisted Gastón Verón who defined with quality to open the scoring. Lanús responded with a header from Aquino that went over the crossbar. Central Córdoba had two counter-attack chances to increase, with the clearest on the foot of Matías Perelló that went to the side of the post. In the last two plays, Lanús could have tied, first with a free kick from Eduardo Salvio and then an assist from Castillo to Salvio himself that stayed behind and his shot went over the horizontal. Before the second leg, Central Córdoba will host Barracas Central and Lanús will visit Gimnasia y Esgrima in La Plata in the fifth round of the Torneo Clausura.
